Visit during spring (April-May) or fall (September-October) for the most comfortable temperatures, spectacular foliage, and optimal water levels for rafting. Weekdays are less crowded than weekends, and early mornings offer the best wildlife viewing and cooler hiking conditions before afternoon heat.

Park admission is completely free with no entrance fees. Parking is available at multiple trailheads and visitor centers throughout the preserve. Limited food options exist within the park, so pack meals and snacks, though nearby Fayetteville offers multiple dining choices.

The park is open year-round, but winter can bring icy conditions and trail closures. Spring offers wildflower blooms and rushing waterfalls from snowmelt. Summer brings warm weather perfect for water activities but can be crowded. Fall foliage (late September through October) is spectacular but attracts peak visitation. Some rafting outfitters operate seasonally from April through October.
