Toronto Zoo is one of North America's premier zoological experiences, home to over 5,000 animals representing hundreds of species across 10 distinct geographic regions. With interactive splash pads, scenic walking trails, and engaging educational programs, this sprawling 287-hectare zoo offers a full day of exploration and wildlife discovery that captivates children of all ages.

1. 1.Arrive right at opening (9:30am) to see animals at their most active before the heat of the day sets in
2. 2.Download the Toronto Zoo app before your visit for interactive maps, animal feeding times, and a virtual scavenger hunt that keeps kids engaged throughout the day
3. 3.Bring a wagon or be prepared for lots of walking, as the zoo is massive. The Zoomobile tram costs extra but saves tired little legs
4. 4.Pack snacks and refillable water bottles, as food options are pricey and spread out across the grounds
5. 5.Don't miss keeper talks and feeding demonstrations, which are posted at the entrance and offer incredible up-close animal encounters

Visit on weekday mornings during spring (May-June) or fall (September-October) for smaller crowds, pleasant weather, and active animals. Summer weekends and holidays get extremely busy. Animals are most active in cooler morning hours before 11am.

General admission is approximately $30 CAD for adults and $20 CAD for children (3-12), with children under 3 free. Parking is an additional $15 CAD. The zoo has multiple dining areas with kid-friendly options, stroller rentals available, and is mostly accessible, though hilly terrain can be challenging.

The zoo is open year-round, but many outdoor exhibits and the splash pads close during winter months (November-March). Winter visits offer unique experiences like seeing polar bears thrive in snow. Special events include Boo at the Zoo (October) and Festival of Lights (November-January).

The Rainforest Cafe inside the zoo offers kid-friendly meals in a themed setting. Outside the zoo, Mandarin Restaurant (15 minutes away) is a popular family buffet with diverse options that accommodate picky eaters.
