🕑 3-5 hours👶 Best for ages 5 and up. The natural rock slides and creek currents are ideal for confident swimmers and adventurous elementary-aged kids. Younger children (3-4) can enjoy the shallow wading areas with close supervision, though the slippery rocks require careful attention.

About

Slide Rock State Park is a natural water playground where kids can splash in crystal-clear Oak Creek, ride down smooth rock water slides carved by nature, and swim in refreshing creek-fed pools. This iconic Sedona destination offers a unique alternative to traditional water parks, with red rock scenery providing a stunning backdrop for family fun.

Highlights

  • Natural rock water slides formed by smooth creek stones, the main slide is about 80 feet long
  • Multiple swimming holes with varying depths perfect for different skill levels
  • Creek wading and exploring among red rock formations
  • Apple orchards from the park's historic homestead add scenic beauty
  • Shallow areas ideal for younger kids to splash safely

Pro Tips

  1. 1.Arrive before 8:00 AM or the park fills to capacity quickly on summer weekends, once full, you'll have to wait for others to leave before entering
  2. 2.Wear water shoes with good grip; the algae-covered rocks are extremely slippery and bare feet can get cut on sharp edges
  3. 3.Bring a mesh bag for wet items and pack light,it's about a 10-minute walk from parking to the main slide area
  4. 4.Apply reef-safe, waterproof sunscreen generously and reapply often; the Arizona sun is intense and there's limited shade
  5. 5.Store valuables in your car, there are no lockers, and you'll want to be in the water, not watching your belongings

Best Time to Visit

Visit on weekday mornings in May, June, or September for the best experience. Summer weekends are extremely crowded (often reaching capacity by 9 AM), while mid-summer offers warmest water temperatures. Early season and fall provide fewer crowds with still-pleasant water temperatures.

What to Know

Entrance fees are $20 per vehicle (1-4 adults) during peak season. Parking is limited and the park closes to new entries when full. No outside food service available, so pack snacks and plenty of water. Restrooms and changing areas are available but basic.

Seasonal Notes

Best visited May through September when weather is warm enough for water activities. Water levels are highest in spring from snowmelt. The park is open year-round, but water is too cold for swimming October through April. Summer (June-August) sees the biggest crowds and warmest water temperatures.

Nearby Eats

Indian Gardens Cafe & Market (just 2 miles north) offers casual burgers, sandwiches, and ice cream in a family-friendly setting. The Hudson in Uptown Sedona (15 minutes away) serves elevated comfort food with a kids' menu and beautiful red rock views from the patio.
