Kelley Park is a sprawling 165-acre urban oasis in San Jose that combines natural beauty with cultural attractions, making it perfect for a full day of family exploration. Kids can enjoy expansive playgrounds, grassy fields for running and picnicking, plus unique attractions like the serene Japanese Friendship Garden and Happy Hollow Park & Zoo right next door.

Visit on weekday mornings (Tuesday-Thursday, 8-11 AM) for the quietest experience, or spring (March-May) when the gardens are blooming beautifully. Avoid summer weekend afternoons when the park gets crowded and hot.

Parking is free but can fill quickly on weekends. The Japanese Friendship Garden requires a small admission fee ($8 adults, $6 seniors/youth). Restrooms and water fountains are available throughout, but food vendors are limited, so bringing snacks is recommended.

Spring offers the most beautiful garden blooms, especially in the Japanese Friendship Garden. Summer can get very hot with limited shade in some areas. The park hosts cultural festivals and events throughout the year, particularly celebrating Japanese culture.

Head to nearby Eastridge Mall (5 minutes away) for family-friendly chain restaurants, or try La Victoria Taqueria on San Carlos Street for local favorite Mexican food that kids enjoy.
