Vasona Lake County Park

Vasona Lake County Park is a premier family destination offering something for everyone across its scenic 151 acres. Kids can burn energy on multiple playgrounds, families can rent paddleboards or pedal boats to explore the lake, and everyone can enjoy easy walking trails perfect for strollers. With expansive picnic areas, grassy fields for games, and even a miniature train ride (seasonal), it's an ideal spot for both active adventures and relaxed family picnics.

3. 3.Pack water shoes if you're planning to let kids wade near the shoreline, as the lake bottom can be rocky in spots
4. 4.The paved perimeter trail is perfect for teaching kids to bike,it's relatively flat and about 2 miles around

Weekday mornings (9-11 AM) offer the most peaceful experience with easier parking and less crowded playgrounds. Spring (March-May) is ideal when wildflowers bloom and temperatures are comfortable for all-day play. Avoid Saturday and Sunday afternoons during summer when the park reaches capacity.

$6 parking fee per vehicle (free for County Parks pass holders). Restrooms and drinking fountains available throughout. Boat rentals operate seasonally with reasonable hourly rates. The park is stroller and wheelchair accessible on paved paths, though some trail areas are unpaved.

The miniature train and carousel typically operate weekends and holidays from March through October (weather permitting). Boat rentals are seasonal, usually April through October. Summer weekends can be extremely crowded. The park remains open year-round, making it a great winter destination when Bay Area weather cooperates.

Head to nearby downtown Los Gatos (5-minute drive) for family-friendly options like Willow Street Wood-Fired Pizza or Aqui Cal-Mex for casual dining with kids' menus. For a quicker option, pick up sandwiches at Los Gatos Meats & Smokehouse before arriving at the park.
