Bay Model Visitor Center

The Bay Model Visitor Center is a hidden gem where kids can explore a massive two-acre hydraulic model that simulates the tides and currents of San Francisco Bay. Visit Tuesday through Friday mornings between 9:00-11:00 AM for smaller crowds and the best chance to interact with staff. Saturdays are busier but offer an extra hour (until 4:00 PM), making it easier to fit into weekend plans.

Admission is completely free, and the facility offers accessible viewing areas throughout the massive warehouse space. There's no food service on-site, but downtown Sausalito with plenty of dining options is just a short drive away.

The center is closed Sundays, Mondays, and major holidays. Indoor venue makes it perfect for rainy days or hot summer afternoons when you want air-conditioned activities. No special seasonal programming, but fall and spring offer the most comfortable walking weather for exploring the waterfront afterward.

Lappert's Ice Cream (just 5 minutes away on Bridgeway) is perfect for a post-visit treat, while Scoma's Sausalito offers kid-friendly seafood options with stunning bay views for a full meal.
