


Henderson Beach State Park is a family paradise on Florida's Emerald Coast, offering over 6,000 feet of sugar-white sand beaches with calm, shallow waters ideal for young swimmers and sandcastle builders. Visit March through May or September through October for perfect weather with smaller crowds. Weekday mornings (8am-11am) offer the calmest waters, coolest temperatures, and best parking availability. Sunset visits are magical but arrive by 4pm to ensure entry before capacity.
Entrance fee is $6 per vehicle (2-8 people), and the park accepts credit cards at the gatehouse. Restrooms with outdoor showers are conveniently located near beach access points, but there are no food concessions,bring your own snacks and plenty of water for the day.
Summer (June-August) brings warmest water temperatures but also peak crowds and afternoon thunderstorms. Red flag days (rough surf) are rare here compared to other Destin beaches. The park stays open year-round, and fall offers the best combination of warm water and comfortable air temperatures. Spring break (March) can be busy.
The Donut Hole (1.5 miles east) serves huge pancakes and kid-friendly breakfasts perfect for fueling up before beach time. Camille's at Crystal Beach (2 miles west) offers casual family dining with fish tacos, burgers, and a kids' menu in a relaxed atmosphere.
Crab Island is Destin's famous shallow sandbar that transforms into an incredible family water playground accessible only by boat. Kids love splashing in the crystal-clear, knee-to-waist-deep emerald waters while parents relax knowing the shallow depths create a safer swimming environment. The festive atmosphere includes floating food vendors, inflatable water toys for rent, and stunning views that make this one of the Emerald Coast's most unique family destinations.
