Audubon Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary

This incredible 2.25-mile elevated boardwalk winds through ancient cypress forest where kids can safely spot alligators, wading birds, turtles, and other wetland wildlife from above. The well-maintained walkway is stroller-friendly and offers an immersive nature experience that feels like a real adventure while keeping little ones safe and engaged throughout.

Visit between December and April during dry season for the most concentrated wildlife viewing, as animals gather around remaining water sources. Arrive at 8:00 AM opening time on weekdays to avoid crowds and experience the sanctuary when birds and alligators are most active in cooler temperatures.

Admission fees apply (check website for current rates; children under 6 are typically free). The entire boardwalk is wheelchair and stroller accessible with rest benches throughout, but there are no food vendors or restaurants onsite, so bring your own refreshments.

Peak season is December through April when migratory birds arrive and wildlife is most concentrated during the dry season. Summer months (June-September) are hot, humid, and buggy with afternoon thunderstorms, though you may see nesting birds. The sanctuary is open year-round with no holiday closures.
