Nickerson State Park

Nickerson State Park is a family outdoor paradise on Cape Cod featuring eight pristine freshwater ponds perfect for safe swimming with kids, miles of easy hiking and biking trails, and excellent camping facilities. 1. 1.Arrive before 10 AM during summer weekends to secure parking and prime pond spots at Cliff Pond or Flax Pond, the most popular swimming areas with sandy beaches
2. 2.Rent bikes at the park entrance to explore the 8-mile Cape Cod Rail Trail that connects through the park,it's paved and perfect for kids with training wheels
3. 3.Bring your own kayaks or paddleboards as rentals can be limited; the ponds are calm and ideal for beginners
4. 4.Pack bug spray for early morning and evening hours, especially near wooded trails and pond edges
5. 5.Download a trail map beforehand as cell service can be spotty in certain areas of the park

Visit on weekday mornings during summer (late June through August) for the best swimming weather with fewer crowds. Early fall (September) offers beautiful foliage, comfortable temperatures for hiking, and significantly quieter trails and ponds.

Massachusetts State Parks parking fee applies ($5 for MA residents, $20 for non-residents per day). No food concessions on-site, so pack a cooler with lunch and snacks. Restrooms and changing facilities available near main pond areas.

Park is open year-round, though swimming season runs Memorial Day through Labor Day with lifeguards on duty at select beaches. Winter offers cross-country skiing and snowshoeing opportunities. Camping available April through October. Some facilities close during off-season months.
