Swope Park

Swope Park is one of the largest urban parks in the United States, offering families an incredible variety of outdoor activities all in one location. With 1,805 acres to explore, four separate playgrounds, hiking trails for all skill levels, and home to the renowned Kansas City Zoo, this park can easily fill multiple family outings with adventure and fun.

Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) offer the most comfortable weather for outdoor exploration. Park admission is free, though the Kansas City Zoo and treetop adventure course charge separate admission fees. Ample free parking is available throughout the park at multiple lots near different attractions, and several picnic shelters can be reserved for birthday parties or family gatherings.

The park is open year-round, but some amenities like the treetop adventure have seasonal hours (typically closed in winter). Fall offers stunning foliage for trail walks, while summer can be hot and humid,plan water activities accordingly. Winter visits are quieter but dress warmly as the park is exposed to wind.

Gates Bar-B-Q on Emanuel Cleaver II Boulevard (about 10 minutes away) is a Kansas City institution with kid-friendly portions and quick service.
