Fall through spring (October-April) offers the most comfortable temperatures and fewer bugs, making hiking much more enjoyable for families. Visit on weekday mornings for smaller crowds and the best chance of spotting wildlife like deer, otters, and colorful birds. Avoid summer middays when heat and humidity can be intense for young children.

Entry is completely free with no entrance fees or parking costs. The visitor center has restrooms and water fountains, but there are no food services inside the park, so pack snacks and plenty of water. The main boardwalk trail is fully accessible for strollers and wheelchairs.

Spring brings beautiful wildflowers and migrating birds, while fall offers cooler temperatures and stunning foliage. Summer can be extremely hot and buggy but offers extended daylight hours. Winter provides excellent wildlife viewing with fewer visitors and minimal insects. The park occasionally floods during heavy rain periods, which can enhance the experience but may close some trails,check conditions before visiting.
