Harbison State Forest

Fall (October-November) and spring (March-May) offer the most comfortable temperatures and beautiful scenery, with fall foliage being particularly stunning. Weekday mornings are ideal for avoiding crowds and spotting deer, while cooler months mean fewer bugs and easier hiking conditions for kids.

Admission is free with no parking fees, making this an excellent budget-friendly family outing. Restrooms are available at the education center but not on the trails, so plan bathroom breaks accordingly before heading out.

Open year-round with trails accessible in all seasons. Spring brings wildflowers and active wildlife, summer can be hot and humid with more insects, fall offers spectacular foliage, and winter provides peaceful, less crowded hiking. The education center has limited hours, so check ahead if you want to visit inside.
