Best Time to Visit

Spring (March-May) and fall (September-October) offer perfect weather for hiking and water activities without the extreme summer heat. Visit on weekday mornings to avoid weekend crowds, and always go early in summer when temperatures are coolest, the lake water is warmest and most comfortable for swimming from June through September.

What to Know

Entrance fees are $25 per vehicle (valid for 7 days) or $45 for an annual pass. Basic restrooms and picnic areas are available at major beaches, but bring all food and drinks as there are no concessions. Note that the recreation area is vast, popular family spots like Boulder Beach are about 30 minutes from the visitor center.

Seasonal Notes

Summer (June-August) brings extreme heat with temperatures over 110°F,plan water activities only and go very early morning. Spring wildflower blooms (March-April) make hiking spectacular. Winter is mild and perfect for hiking but water is too cold for most swimmers. The lake level varies seasonally, affecting beach access and boat ramps.
